Salkia Hindu High English School was established long before the national freedom movement of India got momentum, on bn the 20th of February 1899 by Mr. G.D Banerjee, and others. For about 50 years the school had no building of its own, not cv even a definite address. But people were always interested in this school. They started taking classes in different places even in their own drawing rooms. It was Mr. Jagabandhu Ghosh, Mr. Gaurhari Ghosh, Mr. Sachinandan Sinha and others who in the fourth decade of the last century chose the present site of the school on a disputed land measuring about two bigha and ten katahs.
We are going to fulfill the dreams of some persons interested in education who are no more for many days. They dreamt in a situation when there was no freedom, no intense movement to make India free. It was established in 1899, having no address of its own, as it has now, with the name “Salkia Hindu High English School” with the regulations of the University of Calcutta. I have heard the name of Gangadhar Banerjee as founder along with others. For about fifty years the School (In fact a dream) was alive by functioning at different places of Salkia. In 1920’s Jagabandhu Ghosh, Gourhari Ghosh and Sachinandan Sinha the then landlords and residents of Salkia arranged the site to settle a dispute over the land in which the School is situated. Mr. Gourhari Ghosh started to build this School building in last part of forties of last century
